As shown in this British TV advert, Lada promoted their cars as being tough, dependable and capable of grinding to a halt quickly.

Perhaps the most popular Lada sold in Australia was the Lada Niva. The plucky three door 4×4 that was frill free, light and promised go anywhere ability with its low range gearbox and high ground clearance.
