Lada, that Russian carmaker which had a range of models in the 1980s, all of which were based on recycled models from other manufacturers. Fiat for instance.

As shown in this British TV advert, Lada promoted their cars as being tough, dependable and capable of grinding to a halt quickly.

Perhaps the most popular Lada sold in Australia was the Lada Niva. The plucky three door 4×4 that was frill free, light and promised go anywhere ability with its low range gearbox and high ground clearance.
