Italian cars – and more specifically Alfa Romeos – have a reputation for style, handling and a special something that isn’t offered by other marques.

Alfas traditionally weren’t cheap, either. But they tried to change that with the MiTo. Designed in Milan and made by Fiat in Torino – hence “MiTo” – the MiTo was built on the Fiat Punto’s platform the MiTo was priced from $24,990 when it went on sale in Australia.

Unfortunately, reviews from the motoring press weren’t all that favourable. The driving experience was said to be underwhelming and the MiTo wasn’t exactly pretty.

However, Alfa tried to sell the car as a thing of beauty and something you’d lust after. The couple in the ad even had a mild domestic over it…
