The Holden Captiva 7 we’re testing this week isn’t the only family-friendly seven-seat SUV Holden has offered. There is the recently launched and  more heavy duty Holden Colorado 7 and, looking back through the pages of history, there was also the Jackaroo.

A rebadged seven-seat off-road vehicle that combined a low-range gear box and ladder frame chassis and was designed to compete with the likes of the Mitsubishi Pajero and the Nissan Pathfinder.

Holden sourced the Jackaroo from Japanese sister brand ISUZU (where it was called the Trooper) and it was sold in Australia from 1981 through to 2003. In 2000, Holden launched the above ad to showcase the Jackaroo’s many capabilities, all to the fittingly suitable soundtrack of Ray Charles’ “Hit The Road Jack.”
