Big off-roader blends plush luxury and impressive equipment levels with diesel grunt and genuine all-road ability
The Toyota LandCruiser Prado has garnered much popularity in Australia and this week, we’re taking a look at the top of the range Kakadu variant with the 3.0 litre turbo diesel. Upon approach, the Prado immediately impresses-welcome lights illuminate the cabin and vehicle surrounds. Climb inside, and the beautifully finished cabin is not only from high quality plastics, but is home to some sumptuous leather chairs and infotainment gadgetry.
Speaking of gadgetry, there is the obligatory off-road tool chest and variable suspension and terrain settings. But, one of the Prado’s party pieces are an assortment of cameras placed around the car to provide drivers with a 360 degree view that helps negotiate obstacles off-road along with tight parking spots and tricky intersections.
The 3.0 litre diesel is gutsy but it feels a little old and agricultural. However, performance is more than adequate and the five speed automatic is amply smooth.
