BMW Teams up with Westfield for EV Charge Points at Shopping Centres

BMW has partnered with the Westfield group to bring charge facilities for electric vehicles to 10 major metropolitan Westfield shopping centres on the east coast of Australia.

Available to all EV and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) owners, not just those who drive BMWs, a total of 40 charge points will provide free battery charging for the drivers of electric cars.

The installation is part of a multi-faceted partnership showcasing the all-electric BMW i3 at the centre of an interactive display that will tour Westfield centres.

A national valet parking sponsorship has also been announced.

BMW currently markets two electric vehicles in Australia, the small i3 pictured priced from $67,100 and the exotic i8 hybrid priced from $299,000.

BMW CEO Marc Werner is delighted to be able to provide the infrastructure to low-emission vehicles.

“BMW remains at the forefront of providing e-mobility solutions, the revolutionary BMW i3 being just one example of this,” Mr Werner said.

“This partnership reinforces the BMW i brand’s innovative strength and commitment to smart sustainable solutions here in Australia.”

Greg Miles, of the Scentre Group, that owns and operates Westfield, said the company was commited to upgrading facilities to meet new customer needs.

“This is not only a step in sustainability, but convenience for the growing number of EV drivers in our local communities,” he said.

“All EV drivers will be able to identify charging station locations in Westfield centres via the ChargePoint app, online or through their BMW navigation system.”

Universal charging stations are located at the following shopping centres.
