VW Apprentices Build Lightening Quick Big Bad Wolf Amarok V6

Lightly modified “Big Bad Wolf” Amarok V6 laps Sydney Motorsport Park as quicker than a Golf GTI

Volkswagen Australia wanted to challenge its top apprentices from both head office and from across the national dealer network. The gave them a stock Volkswagen Amarok V6 Highline and told them to fettle the Amarok V6 until it could lap at the World Time Attack Challenge at Sydney Motorsport Park in the same time as a Golf GTI.

The Golf lapped Sydney Motorsport Park in 1:59 and the Amarok crossed the finish line with a best lap time of a staggering 1:57.01sec.

In order to achieve such a target, the team needed to don their thinking caps and pick up the tools. Virtually all of the Amarok’s interior was stripped out, it was fitted with custom Bilstein suspension and AP brakes, along with semi-slick tyres. A vinyl wrap completed the track treatment. And, the racy Amarok had been given the nickname “The Big Bad Wolf.”

The apprentices took on the advice of the Amarok’s driver, Ben Porter to tune their machine to perfection.

Surprisingly, the Amarok’s 3.0 diesel V6 was left untouched, and it produces 165kW – 180kW if you hit the overboost button – and a very healthy 550Nm of torque.

World Time Attack Challenge’s track commentary team described the modded ute as ‘The World’s Fastest Amarok’.

“Thanks to this incredible team of Volkswagen apprentices, we’ve been able to show just how much power is under the hood of the Amarok – 550Nm is great for towing a boat or caravan; and now we can add smashing lap times to that list” said Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia, Carlos Santos.
