More Volkswagen Passat models to join Victoria police fleet
Victoria Police has ordered 15 specially modified Volkswagen Passat 206 TSI Proline wagons to join it’s ever evolving fleet.
The Passat 206 TSI Prolines feature the Passat’s most powerful drivetrain, with a 2.0 litre turbocharged 2.0 litre engine that produces 265kW and will send all that power to all four wheels via Volkswagen’s 4Motion four-wheel drive system. The hot Passats will be used for highway and specialist division work.
The batch of fast VW wagons will form part of 265 car order, which will be primarily made up of Passat 132 TSI and some Tiguan Allspace 162 TSI models. The new models will grow VicPols VW fleet to 467 vehicles.
The Passat 132 TSI wagons will be used for general duties, whereas the sedans will be used for undercover work.
All emergency service vehicles will sport the “Proline” nomenclature, which includes an upgraded alternator to run additional equipment. Volkswagen Group Australia in Sydney worked with the factory R&D team in Wolfsburg on a second battery setup and a custom wiring loom made by Lumen Australia.
Ben Wilks, Volkswagen Australia’s General Manager Sales, Passenger Vehicles thanked Victoria Police for its “resounding endorsement of one our brand’s pillars”.
“Globally the Passat has been Volkswagen’s best-selling model line, but there can be no greater recognition than its acceptance by VicPol,” Mr Wilks said.
“Volkswagen Group Australia is honoured that our cars have been deemed worthy for use by the men and women who serve and protect the citizens of Victoria.”
