Turbocharged Kia Cerato GT Announced

New Kia Cerato GT gets 1.6 litre turbo power, sharper handling and sporty styling

Kia Australia is set to enter the hot hatch game with the addition of the Kia Cerato GT sedan and hatch to its Cerato small car line-up.

Kia has turned to sister company Hyundai and more specifically the i30 N Line and fitted the Cerato GT models with a 1.6 litre turbo engine that produces 150kW at 6000rpm and 265Nm of torque from 1500-4500rpm and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the front wheels. Sport mode makes for more aggressive gear shifts and sharper steering.

Kia hasn’t simply slotted in a more powerful drivetrain. They’ve fitted the Cerato GT with multi-link rear suspension and the new Cerato’s stiffer body ensures greater rigidity and refinement than the outgoing model and Column-mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (C-MDPS) system improves steering feel and Kia Australia has ensured the Cerato GT is just right for local conditions.

Bespoke 18 inch wheels wrapped in 225/40Z R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber shroud 305mm by 25mm ventilated front discs. The rear 262mm rear discs are shared with the rest of the Cerato range.

A distinctive body kit, dual exhausts, paddle shifters, alloy sports pedals and a flat-bottomed leather sports steering wheel help set the Cerato GT a part from the rest of the range. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could opt for the Sunset Orange paint colour, which is unique to the GT.

The new Cerato GT will be packed with a raft of standard equipment including: Autonomous Emergency Braking Pedestrian and Cyclist), Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Rear View Camera, Driver Attention Alert Warning, front and rear parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, Drive Mode Select, six airbags, tyre pressure monitor, speed limiter, 8-way driver seat adjustment with two memory positions, adaptive cruise control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice recognition, wireless phone charger, 8-speaker JBL Premium sound system with Bluetooth connectivity, climate control air-conditioning and heated and cooled front sport seats.

All Kia Cerato GT models are priced from $31,990 drive away.
