Better suspension, bigger brakes and new wheels, but no extra power for Toyota 86 performance kit
Toyota is now offering 86 customers a performance kit to further improve the driving experience of their 86. The performance kit includes Sachs dampers, Brembo brakes and 17 inch 10-spoke anthracite-coloured wheels.
The kit is available on all models in the Toyota 86 range, and has a recommended retail price of $2,200 for the 86 GTS models, and $2,900 if you want the kit on your 86 GT. Toyota says the extra $700 is to make up the difference between the GT’s standard 16 inch wheels over 17 inch versions included in the performance kit.
Power remains the same – 152kW for manual versions.
If you select an 86 GTS, you now also have the option in having your car painted in a new shade dubbed Moon Slate. If Moon Slate is your colour of choice, your 86 GTS will have racy red highlights in the interior, as well as a special black finish on the wheels, mirror caps and rear spoiler. Bundled with all these options, prices for the 86 GTS start from $39,400.
Toyota has also made satellite navigation and an updated infotainment system standard across the range, where it was previously only available on the GTS manual and automatic versions. There have been mild price increases too, with the GT manual getting a $650 price hike with a $31,440 starting price and the GTS manual getting an $150 price rise, with a new recommended retail of $36,640.
Toyota Australia marketing boss Tony Cramb says the performance kit gives buyers even greater choice and driver enjoyment “We’ve chosen two renowned performance suppliers – brands that are used in Formula 1 – to expand the 86 coupe’s credentials as a true driver’s car,” Mr Cramb said.
