New Concept A provides a glimpse into Mercedes’ small car future
The Mercedes Concept A gives prospective customers a taste of how the next generation of small cars from Mercedes-Benz will look.
While the overall shape of the Mercedes-Benz Concept A is similar to the current CLA sedan, it is wider and longer than the existing model and in concept form at least, rides on 20 inch wheels.
That new front end is angry and aggressive – dare we say polarizing – and its clear inspiration has been drawn from the AMG GT supercar – and there are short overhangs for a more muscular stance.
The Concept A’s headlights are coated in a special paint that is UV resistant the headlights change colour depending on the angle of the sunlight. It’s the same at the rear. We doubt this feature will make it to production.
“Our Concept A Sedan shows that the time of creases is over,” states Gorden Wagener, the chief designer of the Daimler AG and goes on to explain that “With its perfect proportions and a sensual treatment of surfaces with reduced lines, it is the next milestone of ‘Sensual Purity’ and has the potential to introduce a new design era. ”The Mercedes’ compact class models have been a huge market success. The last year was a sixth consecutive record-breaking year. Since 2012, more than two million compact cars have been sold.”
