Nissan Australia execs are on a mission to bring the enormous V8 Nissan Titan ute Down Under
The Nissan Navara could be getting a big brother locally, in the shape of the Nissan Titan. The American-made full-sized ute its powered by a 5.0 turbo diesel V8 and can tow up to a whopping 5,200kg and carry a payload of around 900kg.
Nissan Australia boss Stephen Lester told CarsGuide that a ute such as the Titan would make good sense in Australia “…I also believe a vehicle like Titan would make perfect sense for Australia. We’ve been hard at it with the global team to push for this, and we’ll stay hard at it, because I don’t see that changing anytime soon.”
“Australia’s appetite for full-size pickups will only continue to grow, and I think there is great opportunity for (the Titan),” Mr Lester said.
“I’d hate to put a timeframe on it, but we will push hard to get it ASAP, and we will take it as quickly as we can get it.”
Nissan Australia is still working through various engineering hurdles to ensure that the Titan is Oz ready and will obtain sign off for the business case. The biggest of these challenges is developing a car that was only designed and made for left hand drive, into right hand drive.
When the Titan does make it here, it’ll do battle with the likes of other American utes such as the Dodge Ram and Chevrolet Silverado and could have a sticker price of $100,000.
