New Subaru WRX will have Manual Option

New Subaru WRX will be available with stick shift and possibly a hybrid drivetrain

Subaru had suggested only recently that it was planning on killing of the manual gearbox altogether because manual transmissions weren’t compatible with its EyeSight suite of driver assistance technologies – apparently a manual transmission wouldn’t work with Subaru’s autonomous emergency braking system.

Now, though, Drive has reported that Subaru USA boss Tom Doll has confirmed that the new Subaru WRX will in fact be offered with a manual transmission. We suspect that it’ll be the all-new seven-speed unit that debuted on the all-new Forester.

The all-new Subaru WRX and WRX STI are expected to draw inspiration from the Subaru VIZIV concept, and will most likely be powered by a turbo boxer four, mated to an electric motor.
