New Mazda CX-5 priced from $28,690

The new more refined, mature and technologically advanced second generation Mazda CX-5 has rolled into Australian Mazda showrooms.

The new Mazda CX-5 family kicks off with the Mazda CX-5 Maxx with a six-speed manual and a 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine. Standard equipment on this version includes LED headlamps, Mazda’s MZD infotainment system with digital radio and Bluetooth, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, push button start and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Next up is the new Mazda CX-5 Maxx Sport, which is priced from $34,390 plus on roads. The Maxx Sport is fitted with a six-speed automatic as standard, and adds satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents and a rear arm rest with storage and USB ports.

The new Touring spec closes the gap between the Maxx Sport and the Akera and builds upon the Maxx Sport’s standard equipment with heads up display, traffic sign recognition technology, front parking sensors and artificial leather and suede trim.

Stepping up to the new Mazda CX-5 GT, and buyers are treated to a windscreen mounted driving display, swivelling headlights, electric sunshine roof and tailgate, black or white leather and 19 inch alloys. The range-topping Akera adds smart technology such as side cameras, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, driver attention alert and smart braking support.

Three engines and two transmissions will be available, depending on the grade. As aforementioned, the entry level power powerplant is a 2.0 litre four-cylinder unit that produces 114kW @ 6000rpm and 200Nm @ 4,000rpm average fuel consumption for this engine is 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres. The 2.5 litre four-cylinder engine is also available and makes 140kW @ 6,000rpm and 251Nm @4,000rpm. Combined fuel consumption for this engine is 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres.

Finally, there’s the 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbo diesel, which develops a healthy 129kW @4,500 rpm and 420Nm @ 2,000rpm. Average fuel consumption is a claimed 6.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

All engines feature Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology and are mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic, driving the front or all four wheels, depending on the model.

Torque vectoring is standard across the range, and is improved seating and cabin refinement.
