Track friendly Camaro ZL1 to join the Camaro range in 2019

The rumours have been confirmed – the daddy of all Camaros, the 485kW Camaro ZL1 will be brought to Australia by HSV in 2019.

The fierce coupe will be powered by a supercharged 6.2 litre V8 that will produce 485kW and a ludicrous 868Nm of torque. Australian customers will have a choice of either a six-speed manual or 10-speed auto, with each transmission funnelling power to the rear wheels.

On the subject of wheels, they’re 20 inch alloys that are shod with 285/30 rubber at the front and 305/30 rubber at the rear. Behind the wheels lurks track-inspired Brembo brakes, just to make sure all that power is reigned in quickly enough.

An electronic limited slip diff and Magnetic Ride Control and revised styling make for improved aerodynamics.

A bespoke feature fitted to the Camaro ZL1 is Line-Lock. Line-Lock locks the brakes on the front wheels, allowing the driver to heat up the rear tyres – essentially do a burn out. HSV says that Line-Lock is strictly a track only function.

The Camaro ZL1 will be priced from $159,990 (plus on-road costs) and HSV expects around 300 examples of the ZL1 will be converted from left to right hand drive in the first year on sale.
