Peugeot Pick Up

Mongrel ute bound for Africa

The term export quality takes on a whole new meaning with this mongrel ute.

Peugeot has taken the wraps off a new ute based on a Chinese Nissan derivative that it plans to market in African countries.

You heard right.

The Pick Up, not to be confused with the Mahindra Pik-Up, is based on the “Rich” from the Chinese joint venture Zhengzhou Nissan.

The dual cab ute has been topped and tailed with a few other tweaks for its new adventure.

Power comes from an economical 2.5-litre turbo diesel with 85kW and 280Nm of torque, that’s operated with a 5-speed manual.

The dual cab ute can carry 490kg and comes in both two- and four-wheel drive form.

Standard features include air conditioning, two airbags, electric windows, ABS with brakeforce distribution, rear parking sensors and audio unit that features a CD player and USB port.

Pick Up is a replacement for the 208-based Hoggar that bought the farm about three years ago.

Now there’s a name of which you can be proud!
