Mercedes-AMG Reveals A45 Power Plant

New A45 engine the most powerful production turbocharged four-cylinder in the world

Mercedes rocked the hot hatch world with the introduction of the original A45 AMG, now they’ve revealed details of the all-new power plant that’ll power the second generation A45 AMG.

Dubbed the M139, the new engine is a 2.0 litre turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder engine that is available in two guises: a base variant with 285kW at 6,500rpm and 480Nm that is developed from between 4750-5000 rpm and an “S” version that’ll spit out 310kW at 6,750rpm and a stonking 500Nm 5000-5250 rpm.

AMG says that peak torque is developed high in the rev range to emulate that of a high revving naturally aspirated engine.

Power will be transmitted to the road via Merc’s 4MATIC four-wheel drive.

Mercedes-AMG has adopted the “One man, One Engine” philosophy, which has been successfully utilized with the twin turbo 4.0 litre V8 and essentially means that one person oversees the production of the engine from start to finish, and signs off at the end.

More details on the new A45 to come, but if the new engine is anything to go by, it’s going to be an absolute corker.
