Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition marks end of the first generation V12 G-Wagen
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen has been in continuous production for around 40 years. Obviously, Mercedes has updated the basic body style with new interiors and engines over time to keep the G reasonably fresh and, some of those more modern incarnations include bonkers AMG versions.
There has been the G55, the G63 and even the completely insane V12 Mercedes-AMG G65. The Mercedes-AMG G65 Final Edition is one of a number of limited edition models that’ll send off the boxy off-road in preparation for the arrival of the all-new second generation model.
Now, being an AMG, we should probably talk about the G65’s engine. As mentioned, the Mercedes-AMG G65 is powered by a twin turbo 6.0 litre V12 that develops a neck-snapping 463kW and 1000Nm of torque. And then there are the special Final Edition bits. You get bronze trim on the mirrors, spare-tyre cover and grille. Those 21inch, 10 spoke wheels are finished off in matte bronze and the brake calipers are silver.
Inside, there’s lashings of carbon fibre just about everywhere and those seats are wrapped in sumptuous Nappa leather and are finished off with brown stitching. Lovely.
If you’re in Australia and would like to buy one of these bad boys your chances may be pretty slim, as Mercedes is only making 65 examples of the AMG G65 Final Edition and 30 of those are being sent to the US, with a sticker price of $252,690, or nearly $29,000 more than a standard 2018 G65.
We wonder what joys the next G-Wagen will bring…
