Man in Georgia stuffs an 8.0 litre Dodge Viper V10 into a BMW E46 M3 for one of the craziest engine swaps ever
People do strange things when it comes to engine swaps. There was the chap who slotted a BMW M3 engine into a Land Rover Discovery, there was a man who put a Ferrari engine into a Toyota 86 and now there’s a gentleman in Georgia – the country, not the state in America – who stuffed an 8.0 litre Dodge Viper V10 into his BMW E46 M3. Really.
Not a whole lot is known about the build, but what is known is that the engine sits surprisingly far back in the M3’s engine bay, and a lot of the components that make BMW E46 M3 a finely balanced driver’s car have been tweaked to accommodate the 380kW 8.0 litre V10 lifted from the third generation Dodge Viper SRT-10 Roadster donor car. The Viper’s T-56 six-speed manual was transplanted, too.
Performance figures for this monstrosity are unknown, and we’re not even sure if the car works as its creators intended. It does sound mental, though. But if any more information surfaces, we’ll keep you posted.
