Golf GTI three door makes a comeback with the ultra-exclusive Golf GTI Performance Edition 1
Golf enthusiasts rejoice, the Golf GTI three-door is making a comeback. It will be called the Golf GTI Performance Edition 1, and it’ll go on sale in August alongside the mildly revamped Mark 7.5 Golf GTI and R models.
Unlike the five door Golf GTI and Golf R, the Golf three door will be a limited edition, with only 150 examples allocated to Australian customers.
Equipment and performance will be greater than the standard GTI too, with the Golf GTI Performance Edition 1’s 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine chucking out 180kW/370Nm (the standard Golf GTI produces 169kW/350Nm), Volkswagen’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (manual isn’t available), a front differential lock and bigger disc brakes, 19” inch Brescia wheels, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, automated parking, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, darker tinted windows and premium LED taillights with dynamic indicators.
Inside, the seats are wrapped in a special Honeycomb-patterned microfleece/leatherette trim.
Customers can also have their Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 in any colour they please, provided said colour White Silver or Iron Blue.
And to cap it all off, customers who purchase a three door Golf GTI will be treated to a GTI merchandise pack. Valued at $340, the merchandise pack is crammed with goodies including a sports bag, umbrella, cup, beach towel and a folding box.
Prices for the Golf GTI Performance Edition 1 will provided closer to launch.
