Ford Mustang to replace Falcon FG X in Supercars racing series
Racing rag Auto Action has broken the news that Ford is returning to Supercars and, after a hell of a lot of speculation, it’s going to replace the superseded Falcon FG X body shell with an updated Mustang.
DJR Team Penske and Tickford Racing will race the updated version of the Ford Mustang with six ‘Stangs taking their positions on the Supercars grid from 2019.
While the Mustangs will be visually different to their Falcon FG X predecessors, they’ll share similar 5.0 litre V8 units and like Holden has done with the ZB Commodore, Ford has shrugged off the idea of using a twin turbo V6 for the Supercars series.
Ford isn’t expected to fully participate in the series as a manufacturer, rather they will be providing financial and technical assistance where needed.
