Ferrari has confirmed that it will build an SUV
Once upon a time Ferrari staunchly refused to build an SUV, saying that it would dilute their sports car-only line-up.
Times have changed. FiatChrysler and Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne has told the media that the ever-expanding ultra-luxury SUV segment is too tempting, with Bentley, AMG and even Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini joining the fray. Ferrari could be missing out on a huge chunk of profit and potential market share if they chose not to go down the SUV path.
Ferrari’s tie up with FiatChrysler could also be a convenient one, with the automotive conglomerate manufacturing a number of SUVs under different brand names including the SUV and 4×4 experts Jeep.
On the other end of the FiatChrysler SUV there’s some pretty and rakish things, including the lovely new Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
Little is known about the new forthcoming SUV, but Marchionne has hinted that Ferrari will avoid the boxy and practical SUV body shape – a seven seat Ferrari SUV is definitely off the cards for the moment – but think more along the lines of a high riding, four-seat coupe with a sporty silhouette. A Ferrari on stilts, really.
Stay tuned for more.
