New styling, engines and equipment for DS 3 premium hatch

Citroen’s DS 3 premium luxury hatch and cabrio range has gained new styling a new engine, transmission, new infotainment and safety technology and even more customisation options for the 2016 model year.

New DS 3

The DS 3 has even had a name change, with all Citroen badging being dropped from the range, joining the DS 5 as part of the DS sub brand.

Up front there is new DS badging and headlights that combine LED and xenon technology to give the new model a more distinctive face.

As the DS 3 is a car aimed at the fashion conscious, DS has also increased the number of customisation options available to owners, with 78 body and roof combinations and an incredible three million combinations across wheel, interior and other options.

DS 3 roof

There are 10 different roof decals to choose from for hatchback models and four different canvas colours for the cabrio. Additionally, there 15 alloy wheel designs – some of which are new for 2016- and 10 rearview mirror housings, so in theory at least, no two examples of the DS 3 should be the same.

Aden red has been added to the paint palette and Topaz brown is a new roof colour for the updated DS 3.

Inside the cabin there are plush fittings such as watchstrap leather and the DS logo engraved and embossed throughout the interior. There’s also new Basalt black Dinamica cloth and Topaz brown, depending on the model chosen.

In car entertainment has been upgraded with DS’s Mirror Screen system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink for Android, which allows passengers to listen to music, check messages and make and receive calls. Functions can either be accessed through the 7-inch colour touchscreen or via voice control.

DS says the new Mirror Screen replaces up to 20 buttons on the dashboard.

Parking sensors and a reversing camera are now standard on certain models. Emergency braking is also available.

Under the bonnet, a new 1.2 litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 121kW  is mated to a six-speed auto joins the 1.6 litre motor that is paired to a manual gearbox. A sporty DS 3 performance model with a 154kW and 300Nm motor is yet to be confirmed for Australia.

On sale dates and pricing details for other DS variants are yet to be confirmed.
