$50K plus for Honda’s hyper Civic Type R

All-new Honda Civic Type R to be priced from $50,990 when it arrives in Australia

Honda Australia has announced its eagerly anticipated Honda Civic Type R hot hatch will be available in only one specification level when it goes on sale in October, priced from $50,990 plus on road costs.

Although a single specification level will be available, the Civic Type R will be well equipped, featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 228kW at 6500 rpm and 400Nm between 2500 and 4500 rpm, using 95 RON fuel and mated to a new close ration six-speed manual.

There’s also vehicle stability assist, active dampers and three drive modes: Comfort, Sport (default) and +R – the raunchiest mode of all.

Honda Sensing suite is also standard, and incorporates technologies such as automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, along with other techno gadgetry.

Inside, there are sports seats with grippy red fabric.

The new Honda Civic Type R should handle well too, with a smooth underbody, front air curtain, a slim rear wing and vortex generators at the trailing edge of the roof line.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, that triple exhaust is designed to create the best exhaust note possible when giving the Civic Type R a good fang.

And it helps to make sure things are quiet and settled when you’re cruising along on the freeway.

Honda Australia boss Stephen Collins said Honda’s engineers had achieved a best-in-class balance between lift and drag, delivering superior levels of high-speed stability.

“The Civic Type R has a fantastic driving position, sports-car low but with great visibility, it inspires confidence on the road or track,” he said.
