Britain’s fastest ute is set to go under the hammer in Birmingham.
The classic American pick-up truck- a 1984 Chevrolet S10 Truck – houses a freshly built 7.0-litre ‘Big Block’ Chevy V8.
With a nitrous oxide kit boosting performance it pumps out an amazing 670kW, about the same figure as a McLaren P1.
At the same time it’s totally road legal and has regularly been driven on the road over the years.
In fact, the current owner is able to fill it up around the corner from his home because it runs on standard unleaded petrol.
With creature comforts like heating and electric windows it makes for a quick as well as comfortable trip to the shops.
But make no mistake with a full roll cage and other safety equipment, this pickup is designed primarily for racing.
The pickup has been a common sight at race tracks over the last 10 years where it’s been a popular competitor at tracks like Santa Pod.
When the lights go green it is able to blast from 0 to 100km/h in an amazing 1.8 seconds, 0 to 200km/h takes 5.6 seconds and can dispatch the quarter mile in 8 seconds flat.
The pickup has been in the hands of the current owner for the last 24 years,.
In that time he has lavished an incredible $140,000 on the vehicle, improving and maintaining it regardless of cost.
There’s plenty of history and documentation accompanying the car, with receipts for work undertaken.
There’s also old MoT records as well as the existing MoT which is valid until November 2017.
“The truck has been well looked after over the years and the owner has even used it to drive to London for weekends! Now is the time for a new owner to enjoy this amazing vehicle”, classic car specialist Simon Langsdale said.
It’s expected to fetch up to $60,000 when it is auctioned at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show on April 1.
