Brabus Toughens X-Class

German tuner Brabus gives X-Class ute more power and butch styling

Mercedes-AMG vowed never to tune the Mercedes X-Class. No power upgrades or even styling packages. Nothing. Happily for some, German tuner Brabus has given the X250d more power and aggressive cosmetic bits.

Now, let’s start with power. Brabus has developed what it calls the D4 PowerXtra performance upgrade. Essentially a retune of the Nissan-derived 2.3 litre turbo diesel engine, the upgrade increases power by 15kW and torque by 60Nm, resulting in total performance figures of 155 kW at 3,500 rpm and a 510 Nm available from between 1,500 and 2,500rpm. Brabus says the boost helps the ute accelerate from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 11.5 seconds. If that matters.

Around the back, there’s four exhaust pipes to funnel the sound of all that extra grunt.

A performance upgrade for the flagship X350d is said to be in the works.

Cosmetically, there’s a new Brabus grille up front, there are LED side indicators, and there’s an LED lightbar on the roof to aid visibility in dark driving conditions.

BRABUS Monoblock X wheels that are 9Jx20 are shod with 285/45

R 20 high-performance tires supplied by BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA.

Inside, you can get Brabus scuff plates, pedals and footrests and, should you fancy, a wide variety of leather and Alcantara choices.
