Killer Civic Type R Black Edition marks end of run for current Honda Civic Type R hatch
We won’t be getting it here but Honda has just launched a killer finale to the current Civic Type R in the UK.
Just 100 examples of the Civic Type R Black Edition will be offered.
And it’s expected to become an instant collector’s edition.
Already on their way to dealers across the country, the Civic Type R Black Edition features a predominantly black interior with red accents that add to the premium cabin feel.
The exterior is differentiated from the standard version by red rear wing end plates on the spoiler.
With production of the current Civic Type R now finished, the factory in Swindon is gearing up for the next generation Civic that is due to go on sale in March, with a new Type R expected in the latter half of this year.
Australia gets the new Type R later in the year too, but there’ll be a few punters wishing they could get their hands on one of these.
Billed as a ‘race car for the road’, the British built Honda Civic Type R is powered by the most extreme Type R power plant ever built.
The direct-injected turbocharged 2.0 litre VTEC Turbo petrol engine delivers outstanding power, torque and performance figures for the front-wheel drive hot hatch segment.
Peak power output is 228kW at 6500 rpm, and peak torque is 400Nm at 2500 rpm – both higher than for any previous Honda Civic Type R model.
