New ragtop Audi R8 Spyder goes on sale in Australia from May 2017, with a starting price of $388,500
Audi’s second generation Audi R8 Spyder V10 has gone on sale in Australia, with a starting price of $388,500.
That price buys you a stunningly beautiful R8 Spyder with a 5.2 litre V10 that develops 397kW and 540Nm at 6,500rpm. The 0-100km/h dash is dismissed in 3.6 seconds and the R8 Spyder will scream onto a top speed of 318km/h, not that you’ll be able to reach that lofty speed of any of Australia’s public roads.
The V10 is mated to Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission, which promises rapid fire shifts thanks to shift by wire technology. Power is sent to all four wheels courtesy of Audi’s famed quattro all-wheel drive system.
The freshly developed quattro system features an electro-hydraulically activated clutch, which distributes power torque where it’s needed most, depending on driving conditions.
Average fuel consumption is claimed to be 11.7 litres per 100 kilometres, not that fuel consumption really matters when you’re driving a V10 supercar.
The Spyder’s drop top raises and lowers in 20 seconds, and can also be operated when the car is travelling up to 50km/h.
The ride is magnetic too, there’s selectable drive modes and LED lights up front.
Standard equipment in the Audi R8 V10 Spyder includes Audi’s 12.3 inch virtual cockpit with 3D graphics and a variety of different display options and for the first time ever, smartphone information. The virtual cockpit works in conjunction with Audi’s MMI system which incorporates that satellite navigation, touch capability and intuitive voice control.
A Bang and Olufsen stereo is said to provide stunning sound, even with the hood down and the wind rushing through your hair, courtesy of headrest mounted speakers. That V10 makes its own sweet music, of course.
As is the case with all Audi models, there’s a whole catalogue of options owners can choose from to make sure that their new R8 V10 Spyder is distinctly theirs. There are body kit options, a wealth of colour combinations and even LED headlights with laser technology. The possibilities are nearly endless.
The new Audi R8 Spyder V10 is on sale now.
