2019 Kia Sportage range boasts greater value and improved equipment levels

The Kia Sportage is a very good thing. It’s well priced, comfortable, decent to drive and not bad on the eye, either.

Kia has decided they can do a little better, enter the 2019 Kia Sportage range. They’ve upped the standard equipment levels, so now all models get Autonomous Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist. If you opt for a diesel, you’re now treated to Kia’s own eight-speed automatic.

The range consists of four variants: the base Si, the Si Premium, the SLi and the GT-Line. The Si is priced from $29,990 for the base petrol and the range tops out at $47,690 for the GT-Line diesel.

All models now get a new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Si Premium models up get inbuilt satellite navigation and if you opt for the SLi or GT-Line you’ll be able to rock out to a new 8-speaker JBL sound system.

Kia Australia’s local engineering team has further refined the steering for crisper more precise feedback and the ride is more controlled and compliant.

Three engines will be available in the 2019 Kia Sportage range: a 2.0 litre petrol four-cylinder engine that produces 114kW of power and 192Nm of torque. The 2.0 litre unit is only fitted to the base Si, Si Premium and SLi and is mated to a six-speed automatic that sends power to the front wheels.

A 2.4 litre petrol that develops 135kW and 237Nm is available in the GT-Line and sends power to an on demand all-wheel drive system via a six-speed automatic. Finally, a 2.0 litre turbo diesel that makes for 136kW and 400Nm is available on all grades and is paired to an eight-speed automatic that works with the on demand all-wheel drive system.

As you’d expect, the new Kia Sportage range gets a raft of cosmetic updates too, with new styling treatments front and rear, along with new 17, 18 and 19 inch alloy wheels.
