2019 Golf GTI to get decent power upgrade, more tech and performance kit
The Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Edition was so successful in Australia that they sold out. So, Volkswagen Australia has decided to add all the Golf GTI Performance Edition goodies as standard on the 2019 Golf GTI.
That means the 169kW Golf GTI is a thing of the past. However, all 2019 Golf GTI models now churn out 180kW and 370Nm, which is mated to a seven-speed wet clutch DSG transmission. There is an electro-mechanical front differential lock and ventilated front and rear discs that have been borrowed from the Golf R.
The order books 2019 Golf GTI will open in June for delivery October this year, and when the updated Golf GTI goes on sale, it’ll only be available in five door form with that DSG transmission.
In the meantime, you’ll be able to get remaining stocks of the three-door Golf GTI in GTI Original form.
Ben Wilks, Volkswagen Australia General Manager of Marketing, said that the Mark 7/7.5 Golf Performance Range “continues to evolve six years into its life cycle”.
“Volkswagen has the unique ability to adapt and upgrade in this way, as opposed to carmakers that seek to emulate the GTI paradigm,” he said.
Pricing will be revealed at a later date.
