New 2019 Toyota Supra will have the option of a turbocharged V6 and a six-speed manual
Rumours are swirling that the long-awaited 2019 Toyota Supra will be available with a 3.5 litre turbocharged V6 and a six-speed manual will be available as an option, despite previous suggestions that Toyota’s newest sports car will be auto only.
The new Supra shares its underpinnings and a number of components with the upcoming BMW Z4, which will be also offered with a manual, but the Supra will not be powered by BMW’s famed inline six engines.
Instead, the turbo V6 is believed to be developed by both BMW and Toyota, and there may also be a hybrid.
A hybrid version makes sense, as a number of Toyota and Lexus’ premium products are offered with a naturally 3.5 V6 and an electric motor and a battery pack, but given the Supra’s athletic intentions, perhaps the Supra might pair an electric motor to that turbo V6. Time will tell.
