Jaguar Land Rover SVO to build the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, which will be the most powerful street legal Jaguar ever
The compact Jaguar XE is a rather competent thing: sharp dynamics, plush comfort and the sort of prestige and street red that you’d expect from Jaguar. However, the biggest and most powerful engine you can get at the moment is a 3.0 litre supercharged petrol V6 that develops 250kW, not bad for a car that weighs just under 1700kg.
However, it seems the team at Jaguar Land Rover’s in house tuning division, Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) didn’t think 250kW was quite enough.
SVO has taken the XE, stuffed Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0 supercharged V8 – which is found also found in the delicious Range Rover Sport and F-Type amongst other things – tuned it to produce 441kW and, presumably fettled the suspension and gave it a wild bodykit. The result? The Jaguar XE SV Project 8.
Limited information is available on the Jaguar XE SV Project 8, a part from the mental V8 which will drive all four wheels. SVO will hand build just 300 examples of the mental XE and whether any will make it to Australia is an unknown.
Testing has been taking place on the famed Nurburgring – where else? – and the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 will shed the camo and full specifications will be announced on the 28th of June, ahead of its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 30.
John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations said: “The time is right for SVO to produce the most extreme performance road car in the history of Jaguar. The SVO team is possessed by the spirit of performance and committed to creating the most thrilling driving experience imaginable.
“Our clients worldwide were thrilled by the F-TYPE Project 7. The new XE SV Project 8 takes aerodynamics and performance engineering to another level – it is conceived for enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors. The price for such an extreme performance sports car available in strictly limited numbers will reflect that.”
