Hyundai aggressively restyles 2017 Hyundai Sonata mid-size sedan, swapping beige for bombastic
Hyundai has provided a glimpse at a heavily reworked Sonata, which revolves around Hyundai’s new “Cascading Grille,” a design element that first appeared on the all-new and third generation i30 hatch.
The Cascading Grille was said to be inspired by flowing molten steel and Korean celadon vases and the bumpers and the headlights have been restyled around the new grille, making for a more intense gaze and tougher stance.
The grille also makes the bonnet look longer and around the back, the boot lid has been raised, injecting the car’s side profile with more attitude.
There are also new tail lamps, alloy wheels and badging to complete the revamp.
Overall, the images suggest that the tummy tuck and bum lift are a revolution over the styling of the current model, which is a little too safe and sensible in the looks department. And, perhaps most crucially, could give the new Sonata a fighting chance against its decidedly more appealing Kia Optima cousin.
Hyundai has remained tight-lipped on other aspects of the car, and further details will be provided as they come to hand.
